What in the world does baking bread have to do with
a life of prayer?
Using something as seemingly ordinary as baking bread, God taught me a whole new way to worship, pray, and enjoy His presence. He showed me how to stay connected to Him through healthy rhythms of work and rest, and He made my home a joyful house of prayer. And I realized, this isn’t just for me to experience—it’s for you, too.

About the author
Mary Jo Pierce is an accomplished author and public speaker. She served as the Pastor of Prayer & Intercession at Gateway Church in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas for more than 17 years. Mary Jo believes every person can connect with God, and she shares her passion for prayer through teaching, writing, and baking bread. Her books, Let,It Rise, Adventures in Prayer and Follow Me, have unlocked the joy of living prayer for readers across the world.
Mary Jo combines her love of prayer, scriptures, and baking bread in her Acts 2:42 prayer-baking retreats. Taking the principals from Exodus 33:7-18, she artfully connects the Jewish tradition of making challah bread with the rest God promises Moses with His presence. Over 800 have gathered in her home and experienced first-hand the joy of baking bread and the tangible presence and rest of God in the process.
Married to her “Brucie” for 44 years, they make their home in Keller, TX with their two Maltese sisters, Honor and Glory. They have served in the Lord in various ministries in their home and other nations for a combined 90 years! A recently purchased sign for their prayer garden says it all, “And so together, they have built a life they love.” Thanking God every day.
